Overhauser
magnetometers use electron-proton coupling to produce
an order-of-magnitude stronger precession signals
than conventional proton precession units. This results
in improved signal-to-noise ratio and low weight -
making it ideal for users who want high value without
incurring the high expense of cesium systems.
GEM's
GSM-19 -- the only commercial Overhauser system -
delivers a sensitivity of 0.015 nT combined with robustness
and low power consumption. It
features a built-in GPS option for positioning accuracy
and reduced grid surveying costs. VLF
is also available.
In
standard mode, the GSM-19 cycles up to 3 seconds ("slow"
cycling). In "Walking" and "Fast"
modes, the system cycles up to 0.5 seconds and 0.2
seconds, respectively. "Walking" and "Fast"
modes are defined as "fast" cycling.
"Walking"
mode enables the operator to press a key at designated
reading stations. Intervening values are linearly
interpolated for densely-sampled results. "Fast"
mode includes this functionality as well as a higher
cycling rate.
