Gem Systems

Calibration Magnetometers

For simple applications, customers may be interested in the GSM-8 (Proton Precession) and GSM-9 (Overhauser) systems. These are basic instruments (i.e. without any memory) for calibration of fluxgate magnetometers or for simple magnetic reconnaissance programs.

For more advanced applications, GEM recommends that customers consider the GSM-19T Proton Precession or GSM-19 Overhauser systems as modern and cost-effective evolutions of the GSM-8 and GSM-9.

GSM-8 and GSM-9 Magnetometer Applications

These instruments are relied upon by enterprises for calibration of fluxgate magnetometers, and especially, for customers who require:

• 1 nT sensitivity
• Extreme portability
• No orientation errors
• Reliability
• Ease of use

GSM-8 and GSM-9 Benefits

These are basic magnetometers that are effective for calibration:

1. 1 nT sensitivity for suitability with most fluxgate calibrations.

2. Portability. Both systems are among the most lightweight available.

3. No orientation errors for overall high data quality. Both systems are free from orientation (i.e. heading) errors according to the physics of Proton Precession and Overhauser magnetometers.

4. Reliability. GEM’s Proton Precession and Overhauser instruments are proven technologies.

5. Ease of use. The GSM-8 and GSM-9 feature easy-to-view numeric displays and instrumentation controls.

For more information

For details on Proton and Overhauser technologies, you may want to review the technical papers on this site. Brochures for the GSM-8 is also available. For information on more advanced technologies, please refer to the Proton Precession and Overhauser product pages.
